It’s never been that much of a secret that I have a skincare obsession. There’s nothing I love more than to stumble across a new treatment, product or health kick that promises me a radiant complexion and an inevitable happier disposition.

I’ve tried a whole load of brands a products for pure enjoyment and consider testing my health to be one of my most loved pastimes. When you’re testing natural solutions and trying to intake as much water as possible, it can be tiring, but my curiosity fuels me on.

So, it’ll come as no surprise when I reveal one of my biggest fears. Stretch marks!

They really are the one health slash skincare woe that invokes fear throughout as soon as I hear the name. Perhaps because deep down I know that there’s nothing I can do to stop them creeping there way onto my body if they feel like it.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are considered to be hereditary. Partly because of our genetic makeup of course and completely down to the way our individual skin is made up. If you’ve been born with a lot of natural elasticity in the skin, chances are that you’ll be okay.

That’s why they say look to your family members to see how their skin behaves in order to judge your own!

Pregnant woman on a beach

Now, genetics is not the only contributor to stretch marks. There are other components that you need to keep in mind. For instance, they are also very common during pregnancy. During pregnancy, the swelling of the womb tugs and pulls the skin. It also leads to a quick stretching of the skin. There are preventative measures pregnant woman can take to lessen the risk of stretch marks, However, you should expect to see some after a pregnancy.

Moreover, a sudden gain or loss of weight leads to them, too [1]. Teens may notice them after a quick growth spurt. These marks might appear on the back of the legs, hips, and elsewhere. Whatever the cause for your stretch marks, know that there is a way to reduce their appearance, but more importantly, prevent them.

I do my best at preventive measures however. I know that if I’m destined to get stretch marks, I will get stretch marks – and there’s not an awful lot I can do about that. But, I do also know how the skin works and behaves.

Hydration and moisture are your absolute best friend [2]. Give the skin the tools it needs to grown and stay strong and you’ll be off to a good start. But, as much as I’ll try and drink 2-3 litres of water a day, water alone cannot save the world – or your stretch mark free body. External moisture really is worth the fuss.

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise

I’ve been using body moisturizing since my early teens. It’s just something I couldn’t go without. I hate the feeling of my skin being dry or flakey and I guess that has helped me from an early age. You’ll notice a difference in your skin only after a few days of moisturizing daily. Making this a daily part of your skincare routine will make a huge difference.

A girl through a glass window

When it comes to stretch marks, I’ve read up more than most and have given a couple of brands a try, but it’s been the Clarins Stretch Mark Control that has been on my radar. I’ve heard mixed reviews but, me being me, I’ve also noticed that each reviewer tends to have a different skin type, varying family histories with stretch marks and completely opposite lifestyle choices – all of which alter the results of course.

Why Clarins?

Clarins Stretch Mark Control Bottle

Well, it won’t sound silly to some, but Clarins is one of my most loved beauty and skincare brands. I just love what they do, their product ranges and their ethos. I’m surprised at myself for not trying this product sooner, but I’m excited to get it started.

Their Stretch Mark Control body lotion aim to pack the skin with a whole lot of moisture to help stop the formation of stretch marks and improve the appearance of any that you already have. Whether its during pregnancy, weight fluctuation or periods in your life where you tend to grow the most (i.e. teenage years), the cream does its thing.

Buy combating dry patches, the Clarins Stretch Mark Control aims to keep the skin flawless, taught and smooth – pretty much the three things we all want when it comes to the topic of stretch marks. And how does it do that? Their key ingredient is Crowberry extract. It aims to boost collagen (our bodies best friend) and keep the elasticity in the skin working well.

See, it’s all scientific really. That lovely thing collagen is vital for healthy skin, so using products that work with collagen is always at the top of my to do list. I’m more than excited to see how this one goes.

So, How Did You Find It?

I’m going to start by saying that I’ve been using the Clarins Stretch Mark Control alongside my existing lifestyle. I drink 2-3 litres of water a day, I exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet – read as enough greens to fuel my body and the odd burger or pizza night whenever I fancy it, a girls gotta live right?

Hereditary wise, as far as I know my Mum didn’t have stretch marks during her pregnancy and her scars heal quite well. I do already have small white stretch marks on my inner thighs, so I know that I do get them, they just don’t seem all that bad on the scale of things.

Woman in a spa

I think it’s important to look at a persons whole story before comparing their results to yours because, it really does matter! How I live and my genetic makeup does effect how my skin works and responds to different treatments.

So now that’s out of the way, lets get to it. I started using the Clarins Stretch Mark Control to prevent stretch marks as my body changes through life and before pregnancy. I want to report on how it is with existing marks too.

I’ve been using it twice a day, in the morning after showering and before bed, by applying it in circular motions (just as directed) on my stomach, thighs, buttocks and breasts. It’s easy to apply and soaks in easily with a somewhat luxurious feel but not too over the top.

Within 6 weeks, the first tub was finished, so I thought it was the best time to comment. Not only do the marks on my inner thighs look smoother and more masked, but my skin is feeling much smoother overall – which gives me a good promise for future skin growth and transformations.

And Will You Rebuy?

After reading other Clarins Stretch Mark Control reviews and conducting some research on my own, I concluded that this is a product worth giving a try – so I did! I am absolutely in love with it and it’s one that I’ll continue to rebuy.

As a matter of fact, I’ve already placed my next order so that should say something. It definitely is a luxurious product, but I expected it to be. I have to give it a 5 out of 5 for performance and it’s earned its place in my daily skincare routine for life.

If stretch marks are something you struggle with too, I strongly encourage you to read Clarins Stretch Mark Control reviews and give this product a try. It’s an amazing product at a great price for everything it does. Not to mention it’s safe to use and saves you money in comparison to expensive treatments or surgical procedures.
