Under eye wrinkles – arguably one of the worst kinds of wrinkles we all experience. Of course that statement completely depends on your opinion.
Wrinkles may not bother you in the slightest (although I highly doubt it, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this), or it could be those around your mouth that might annoy you the most.
Wherever they are, wrinkles are inevitable for all of us.
It seems that we all get to a certain age and there they are. Regardless of your heritage or gender, they’ll soon catch up with us all.
Skin looses its natural elasticity quite easily as we age. It’s mainly down to the way our bodies are able to produce those vital things that keeps the skin running well. Collagen is one of the main things here!
It’s collagen that keeps the skin taught, plump and youthful looking – it’s really not just the beauty industries new favourite word. At some point in life, collagen production begins to slow – and that is when fine lines and wrinkles tend to appear. I guess this is why experts tend to have us all focusing on what we can do to actually slow this all down.

Putting the Preventative Time In
Of course there are some things we can all do to help slow down the formation of fine lines and wrinkles – even if you already have them, you can help improve them or even stop them for getting a lot worse.
It’s even better for those that haven’t got any signs yet, as you can hold them off for as long as possible, instead of encouraging them.
Stay out of the sun
Now this isn’t the best news for sun worshippers or those out in warm sunshine all day, but sun exposure is one of the proven ways that collagen production slows and wrinkles start to form. So, making sure that you cover your eyes with sunglasses and pop a hat on and always wear a high SPF sunscreen, you’ll be doing your skin the world of good.
Plus, by wearing sunglasses, you’re likely to stop squinting – another thing that causes wrinkles!
Get enough sleep
This one probably sounds a little silly or even good news for some – but a lack of sleep is not good for the skin. When we sleep enough, not only do our bodies function properly but they also produce enough hormones to get everything growing and developing properly – including elasticity in the skin!
When we don’t, our bodies produce cortisol, which breaks down skin cells – and wrinkles always appear as a result.
If you’re a smoker, you might be a little tired of hearing how bad it is for you, but it really isn’t doing your wrinkles any good at all. When smoking, enzymes are released that actually break down skin cells – including collagen and elastic – which then causes wrinkles in the skin. So you’re really helping wrinkles to form easier when smoking!
But, it’s not always easy to stop and take preventative measure, especially if you already have quite deep wrinkles formed. So, there are some really great and effective steps you can take towards reducing them too!
Improving the Appearance of Wrinkles
To improve the appearance of wrinkles there are a few things that you can start doing right away to get your body back in to full functioning order and get that collagen production going again. Starting with foods…
Fish is a great source of protein as well as containing lots of Omega 3. It’s particularly important to eat fatty fishes, like salmon and sardines, as they’re the ones with the fatty acids in. This allows the skin to be plump and fuller looking. Omega 3 really nourishes it from without and helps to give off a more youthful appearance.
Fruits & Vegetables
Now so many people do say that eating fruit and vegetables are really good for you and they really are in a number of different ways. Not only is a balanced diet and eating just the right amount of portions good for your health, but it can help your skin too. They contain antioxidants that give your skin that lovely radiant look so many of us all want to achieve, as well as give is a fuller look.
There’s also a lot of research been done into the use of soy. The European Journal of Nutrition published some documentation on adding in a soy based supplement, alongside fish proteins and other vitamins, helps to improve the skin firmness over a period of around 6 months. But it doesn’t just mean that supplements can be used, soy based foods are always a good source too.
This is one of the best vitamins (alongside D) for skin. It really helps with collagen production, to protect against harmful sun rays, help inflammation and even out skin tone – all an added benefit whilst you’re looking to improve the appearance of under eye wrinkles. Underrating hydration is a sure way to bring on wrinkles. It seems silly, but keeping your skin hydrated helps collagen production, to keep it looking full and plump and keep those pesky under eye winkles away. This not only includes keeping the water intake up for internal purposes, but with moisturisers too.
People tend to focus on anti-aging products when they’re looking to combat wrinkles, but deep moisturisers are also very important. Here is our best anti aging creams.
Retinol and products containing variations of it are a must for wrinkle reduction. It’s essential a form of Vitamin A and is great for repairing sun damage. It’s a topical treatment and usually available over the counter. Aside from the sun damage it also works to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How to Banish Lines Under Eyes: Erasing the Signs of Aging
Want to know what turns heads more than an amazing wardrobe or even a perfect set of shoes? Dazzling natural skin.
Because the skin both around, and under your eyes is so naturally thin, signs of damage like fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots can be particularly common. Unfortunately, this can mean that you quickly look, and feel older than you are.
According to polls, women spend anywhere up to $426 billion each year on skin products and makeup to cover these blemishes- but there could be a better option. Following, we’ll cover some natural and simple ways to banish under-eye lines, and erase the signs of aging for good.
Get ready to rejuvenate your youthful complexion.
Step 1: Ditch the Destructive Lifestyle Choices
We’re not telling you how to live your life, but we can say that science shows some aspects of your lifestyle might have a more negative impact on your skin, and appearance. The things you do from day to day can cause wrinkles around your eyes and deepen existing wrinkles and lines too.
Common examples might include regular frowning and stress that crinkles the sink around your eyes. What’s more, other lifestyle choices like smoking, tanning, and sleeping with your face pressed against your pillow can all do detrimental things to your skin.
Look carefully at your habits and analyze what you can do for a fresher face.
The biggest no-noes include:
- Drinking alcohol: This dehydrates your skin, leads to puffiness around the eyes, and ensures that your dermis doesn’t have enough time to repair at the end of the day by impacting the quality of your sleep.
- Smoking: The toxins in cigarette smoke leave your skin dry, dull, and more prone to wrinkles. The blood vessels in your skin constrict, leading to a pale and uneven appearance, while the toxins reduce the production of collagen and elastin – prompting quicker sagging.
- Unhealthy eating: The best way to improve your skin health is to get hydrated, and consume plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, along with vitamins A, E, and C.
Step 2: Sleep Tight
Beauty sleep is one of the most wonderful ways to enhance your skin and improve your appearance in no time. While one early night might not make you look ten years younger, you should always do your best to get plenty of rest. Your mind and body needs to recuperate for at least seven or eight hours every night. Failing to get enough sleep is a surefire way to open yourself up to early wrinkles, dark circles, and more.
When you sleep well, on the other hand, you reduce stress, produce serotonin, and ensure that your body feels fresh and rejuvenated every morning, skin emanating that well-rested, healthy glow. In other words, a good night’s sleep is your number one weapon against under-eye lines and wrinkles.
Step 3: Enjoy Plenty of Regular Exercise
Exercising or engaging in regular physical activity of any form not only helps to improve your health and your mood, it also leads to glowing, clear skin! The more you exercise, the more your blood circulation increases, moving oxygen around the body at a more rapid rate. This process nourishes the skin cells, for a fresh and glowing appearance. What’s more, sweating helps to unclog your pores, develop natural oils and keep your skin soft, and supple naturally.
Avoid sagging and encourage a healthy, more vibrant you with a weekly Zumba class or a jog every couple of days. It may not feel like much fun at first, but trust us – you’ll love the benefits.
Step 4: Stay Sun Safe
Lounging in the sunlight may be a great way to pass the time, but remember that the sun can be your biggest enemy when it comes to fine lines and wrinkles – particularly around the eyes. Think of it this way – avoiding the sun completely is going to leave you an under socialized, pale, and vitamin deprived wreck. However, overexposure to the sun will end up causing you a lot of damage if you don’t have a barrier in place to provide protection.
Make use of a trustworthy broad-spectrum sunblock that’s great against UVB and UVA rays. This will help to keep your skin safe from the premature formation of wrinkles, keep dullness at bay, and banish unwanted age spots.
Step 5: Use Products to Blur Lines Under Eyes
Finally, if you want to keep your skin fresh and glowing – and free from those pesky wrinkles, then make sure that you moisturize every morning with an eye-cream or special anti-aging solution. Basic moisturizers should be enough to fill your skin with the water it needs to decrease the severity of deep lines and wrinkles – leading to a younger looking complexion.
It can be helpful to get an extra dose of these ingredients before bed too, as they can help to boost the natural rejuvenation that your skin goes through each night as you sleep. Look for creams that are rich in skin-friendly ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid, vitamins C and E, or neuropeptides.
So now that you know some firm ways to firm up your skin and reduce those under eye wrinkles, you can get to work and start today!
